Jagan to Bank on Social Engineering Concept for Third List of Poll Nominees

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is toying with the reshuffle of candidates for Assembly constituencies in the ensuing elections. As part of the exercise, the YSRC had consultations with legislators on Saturday for preparing the third list. He has already released the first and second lists with 38 names.

According to sources, Jagan Mohan Reddy plans to give priority to the social engineering concept. It may be recalled that he gave a majority of seats to BCs in the 2019 elections. To consolidate the support of BCs, SCs, STs and minorities, the Chief Minister offered 17 of 25 Cabinet berths to them.

Now he is not hesitating to give priority to BCs. For instance, the Mangalagiri Assembly seat was won by Alla Ramakrishna Reddy in 2014 and 2019. In fact, in the 2019 elections, he defeated Nara Lokesh. Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced Ganji Chiranjeevi, who is a BC, as the coordinator for Mangalagiri.

Jagan Mohan Reddy is presently concentrating on Prakasam, Nellore, Tirupati, Anantapur, NTR and Palnadu districts. According to sources, the third list will be released in the next few days.

As regards Prakasam district, he has had talks with MLAs Anna Rambabu and Maddisetti Venugopal and is working on various equations. Sources said that a new proposal has been given to Venugopal. Further the decision on Ongole MP seat is under scrutiny in view of the changing political equations with the possibility of a Telugu Desam, Jana Sena and BJP alliance.

During talks with Narasaraopet MP Lavu Sri Krishnadevarayalu, Jagan Mohan Reddy asked him to contest from Guntur Parliament seat due to political compulsions. Minister for medical and health Vidadala Rajini was recently appointed as coordinator for Guntur West MLA segment and Noor Fatima, daughter of present MLA Md. Mustafa for Guntur East.

The sources said that Jagan Mohan Reddy is planning to field a BC for the Narasaraopet Lok Sabha seat as part of his social engineering concept. If this fails to materialise the former MP Modugula Venugopal Reddy will be considered for the seat.

Meanwhile, after the meeting, Krishnadevarayalu said that he had expressed his unwillingness to shift to Guntur as he had worked arduously for five years and built a massive supporter base.

Further Narasaraopet MLA Dr Gopireddy Srinivaas Reddy and Gurazala MLA Kasu Mahesh Reddy were also called by Jagan. Both were confident that they would be re-nominated. Mylavaram MLA Vasantha Krishna Prasad, who recently opted out of the election fray, when to the camp office after getting a call from Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The sources stated that scrutiny of other segments like Nandikotkur, Kovvur, Pendurthi, Chintalapudi, Chodavaram, Aaluru, Kurnool, Gudur, Singanamala and Gopalapuram are under progress.
