Will notify Film industry's concern on GST to Centre: Pon Radhakrishnan

He asserted that the government is always open to listen to the problems faced by those in the business.

Chennai: Contending that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government is keen on addressing the concern of people, Union minister of state for finance and shipping Pon Radhakrishnan has assured to take up the issues faced by the film industry in Goods and Services Tax (GST) and income tax with the Centre.

He asserted that the government is always open to listen to the problems faced by those in the business.

“The government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen on ensuring growth in all sectors in the country,” he said while speaking at the conference on 'Indian Entertainment Industry: Global Leader in the Making' held under the joint auspices of the Bharat Niti and the South India Film Chamber of Commerce, here on Saturday.

He said the BJP government at the Centre is very industry friendly. He would get back soon to the industry on the developments on this front he said while assuring to take up the issues. Various reforms have been proposed by the Centre for the welfare of the media and entertainment industry.

Triple talaq ban is a boon to Muslim women: The Centre's move to ensure protection of Muslim women through the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017, is a big boon for Muslim women in the country, Mr Radhakrishnan said. Speaking to reporters here, he said the proposed law, makes talaq-e-biddat a “cognizable and non-bailable offence.”

The bill has provisions for “imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years and fine” for any Muslim man who divorces his wife by uttering talaq three times in quick succession. Besides it also provides for subsistence allowance to Muslim women and custody of minor children as “may be determined by the magistrate.”
