T Harish Rao wants action on R&R scam at dam
Hyderabad: Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao on Saturday instructed officials and contractors working on the Mid Manair Dam to complete the work in all respects by February 15 as this forms a crucial part of the Kaleswaram project.
He told a meeting with officials here that the Godavari water diverted through three barrages of the Kaleswaram project will be pumped to the Mid Manair dam canal system. It was therefore essential to complete all the work by March.
He found fault with the revenue department for allowing wrong and fake affidavits submitted by some individuals to get more compensation for their lands that faced submergence under the Mid Manair project.
He asked the district collectors to initiate action against those responsible for this, including booking criminal cases. He said all 25 crest gates of the Mid Manair Dam should be installed and rehabilitation and resettlement work must be completed simultaneously.
Mr Rao said that government had sanctioned '1,200 crore for the R and R package. He said the Mid Manair project works started in 2006 and only half had been completed up to 2016. The remaining 50 per cent of work was being completed in 12 months which was a record.
