Senior Officials Fear Loss of Patronage under Congress

HYDERABAD: With the BRS getting voted out in the recent elections, some senior officials in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Water Board, especially those whose service got extended after retirement, are in a state of confusion and bracing for the inevitable to happen in the coming days.

The senior officials, whose services have been extended, either shared a good rapport with former Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, former Ministers or with senior IAS officers.

One of the senior officials from the municipal department, whose services have been extended thrice for three consecutive years, is GHMC additional commissioner (finance) Jai Raj Kennedy. There have been several protests against his service extensions by the employee unions. GHMC contractors too protested against him after their bills were not released.

Similarly, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) executive director (ED) M. Satyanarayana’s service was also extended thrice for three consecutive years. As the ED of the Water Board, he takes care of major projects in HMWS&SB.

Some officials are also expecting transfer of GHMC Zonal Commissioners (ZCs). GHMC is divided into six zones headed by a ZC. Earlier, Chief Minister designate Revanth Reddy had raised an objection on rolling back the transfer orders of Telangana Gazetted Officers Union president V. Mamatha.

During the BRS tenure, when V. Mamatha, who was then serving as GHMC ZC of Kukatpally zone, was posted as LB Nagar ZC. However, within a day, the orders were rolled back and she continued her charge as ZC for Kukatpally zone.

In addition to them, the officials from various state government departments deputed to GHMC fear that they will be repatriated to their parent department.

A senior entomologist in GHMC, despite being promoted as a duty medical officer (DMO) has not reported to the department of health, medical and family welfare and is continuing in GHMC. Some retired employees working in GHMC transport wing (Khairatabad zone) are fearing the same.

Similarly, officials from the Secretariat who should be deputed to the revenue department are working in GHMC's sanitation wing and some officials of the electricity department are working in the civic body's IT wing. "The officials and staff deployed from other departments due to political pressures increase the financial burden on the corporation," said a senior GHMC official.
