Yellapur: Voting was smooth and peaceful in Yellapur, which  recorded a good turnout of 77.52 per cent in Thursday's byelection.

While seven candidates are in the fray, the fight is between Bharatiya Janata Party’s, Shivaram Hebbar and the Congress’ Bheemanna Naik.

Except for small technical glitches in about six EVMs, which were attended to immediately, there were no hold-ups during voting , which though slow early morning,  picked up later in the day.

Despite  the constituency being thickly forested, people actively participated in the polling with the tribal booths seeing a good turnout and many of the disabled and the old too turning out in big number at many booths.

BJP candidate,  Shivaram Hebbar, who came with his family, cast his vote at the Higher Primary School in Arabail. Officials said a voter was believed to have taken his own photograph while  casting his vote and a case would be filed against him if he was found to be guilty on investigation.
