Uppi's poll logic: One state-one election

Actor-politician says it will ensure synergy in governance, rule out conflict.

Mangaluru: Karnataka Prajnavantha Janatha Paksha (KPJP) founder and actor Upendra has batted for 'One state One election.'

Upendra was in Mangaluru to organise the party in the coastal region on Tuesday.

"There is a talk about 'one country one election.' I don't know how it will work as it is a very big concept. But instead, they should start with 'one state one election.' This will bring about synergy in administration," Upendra remarked while speaking to reporters.

"Diverse elections will see different parties coming to power at different levels. The differences between them would affect the administration. Instead it is better to have elections at a time for all levels as the committed voters would vote for the party of their choice at all levels. There would be synergy in the administration," he said.

Though his party is concentrating on the forthcoming assembly elections, Upendra has not yet planned about the party contesting the ULBs and RLBs without knowing the pulse of the people. "We will see the performance in the assembly elections first. Based on this we will decide on the ULB and RLB elections. If need be, we may wait for five years and prepare for the next election," he said.

Though the party has decided to contest in all the assembly constituencies, Upendra has not yet finalised the constituency from which he would contest. "The priority is on contesting from all 224 constituencies than me contesting the election. I am ready to guide. For me the post is not important. I am yet to decide on the constituency," he said.

Upendra also said that he had not yet decided on an alliance with other parties but did not deny the possibility. He said that anybody from any party was welcome to join hands with him. However they need to agree with the principles of the party.
