Hyderabad: Municipal administration and urban development minister K. Taraka Rama Rao will oversee the city TRS to strengthen the party and negotiate with the defected party MLAs and leaders.
According to sources, Mr Rama Rao will concentrate only on party activities and will be available for all party leaders from January until the next general elections. With the party sources predicting early elections in October next year, the TRS has already geared up for the election and is now in the process of selecting the right candidates to replicate their GHMC election win.
Party sources say that it has become a Hercu-lean task for the TRS to accommodate all the defected leaders along with the key members within the party. Several leaders have already expressed their displeasure over the party’s attitude during a series of meetings held in TRS Bhavan.
In order to prevent leaders from switching to TRS as a last-minute ploy during the general election, the party has asked KTR to take over the party’s responsibility, specifically city constituencies.
TRS sources said that Mr Rama Rao would temporarily set aside his responsibilities as minister to concentrate on strengthening the party. Sources claimed that Mr Rama Rao can run the show as minister as there are several systems in place and his presence in the TRS headquarters will boost the party cadre. Insiders say he will be confined to the party for the next eight months.
Delimitation to increase mla count in city by 8
The TRS will accommodate defected party leaders after the delimitation of Assembly constituencies prior to the general elections.
Party sources claim-ed that the Assembly delimitation is an inev-itable process and one which has been clearly prescribed in the AP Reorganisation Act 2014. They said Telang-ana would receive app-roval from the Centre for delimitation prior to the election, which would result in an incr-ease in eight Assembly constituencies in GHMC limits.
“When the Telangana Bill can be passed within a few hours, why sh-ouldn’t Assembly deli-mitation get the Cent-re’s approval? The Uni-on government has alr-eady assured that they would accept the deli-mitation process and we hope they will not step back from the ass-urance given,” said a party leader on condition of anonymity.
Mayor gets assurance on TRS ticket from Uppal
It may be two years before the next state Assembly elections but city TRS leaders have already begun making their moves to get in the reckoning for party tickets, with several seen doing the rounds of the party headquarters for the purpose.
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti this time proposes to field strong candidates keeping wi-nnability uppermost in mind. In the latest de-velopment, the party has said city mayor Bonthu Rammohan would contest the next state polls from Uppal constituency.
Sources said that minister K.T. Rama Rao gave mayor Rammohan this assurance despite there being stiff competition for a ticket for the Assembly constituency from party in-charge Bethi Subhas Reddy.
