Party poll in Congress: Eyes on Mullapally Ramachandran
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: AICC's central election authority chairman Mullapally Ramachandran has listened to the woes of a section of MPs from Kerala regarding the seat sharing mechanism between the two factions in the organisational revamp. This fact finding mission of Mr Mullapally will continue until Sunday. MPs who called on Mr Mullapally on Thursday include K. V. Thomas, Shashi Tharoor, M. I. Shahnavas and M. K. Raghavan and AICC leader P. C. Chacko. It is learnt that Mr Thomas and Mr Chacko had been voicing against Oommen Chandy and KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala who reportedly agreed to share the seats of the 282-member governing council of the KPCC and the lower level committees.
One of the leaders who called on Mr Mullapally told DC that so far they had not seen the list sent from their constituencies by the KPCC leadership. "The high-power Political Affairs Committee members and MPs were in the dark as to who all had been lucky enough to find a place on committee list. So we brought this to the notice of Mr Mullapally in New Delhi on Thursday. K. Muraleedharan, MLA, will meet him on Friday", said a Congress leader.
The remaining MPs and KPCC leadership have been busy with the day and night protest being held in front of the Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram and at the 13 collectorates across the state. KPCC president M. M. Hassan along with Mr Chennithala is expected to meet Mr Mullapally in New Delhi on Saturday.
However, it is not confirmed whether Mr Chandy will also leave for Delhi as he had reiterated on Wednesday that his priority is to campaign in Vengara. Now all eyes are on Mullapally Ramachandran. Sources say it is to be seen whether or not Mr Mullapally will have the courage to amend the final list handed over by AICC returning officer Sudarshan Nachiappan. Mr Nachiappan and Mukul Wasnik, AICC general secretary in charge of the state, also attended the meeting on Thursday.
