Mahila congress's village home stays' to woo women voters

The village stay programme would commence soon in Chikkamagalur district, according to sources in the state unit of Congress.

Bengaluru: Village home stays by leaders of the women’s wing of pradesh Congress committee coupled with an offer of kumkum and turmeric powder form part of the new strategy by the ruling party to woo voters across the state in the run up to next year’s elections to the Legislative Assembly.

Some of these new methods of garnering support of women voters were evolved during a meeting of the executive committee chaired by president Lakshmi Hebbalkar here on Thursday.

The village stay programme would commence soon in Chikkamagalur district, according to sources in the state unit of Congress.

Besides, the door to door campaign, too, would be launched soon with leaders and workers of the women’s wing set to adopt the traditional approach of offering kumkum and turmeric powder at each doorstep. That’s not all. The women workers would stage street plays to highlight alleged ‘anti-poor’ policies of the Union government. These would be followed by public speaking competitions, essay writing and other competitions for women.

In November, ‘Salute to Indira’ programme would be organized to coincide with birth anniversary of the late prime minister Mrs Indira Gandhi.
