DMK seeks senior cop probe into revaluation scam

Anna University had suspended Uma and two others after finding prima facie evidence against them on Friday.

Chennai: Expressing anguish over the revaluation scam in Anna University, unearthed by the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (DVAC), DMK working president M.K. Stalin demanded that a senior IPS officer to be appointed as the investigating officer to probe the irregularities and sought action against all those involved in the scandal.

He alleged that the case against Anna University’s former controller of examination G.V. Uma and nine others indicated “the extent to which the higher education sector had deteriorated under AIADMK’s rule.”

Anna University had suspended Uma and two others after finding prima facie evidence against them on Friday. Citing the reports that irregularities committed in the award of marks for research scholars and procurement of answer sheets, he said all these had cast doubts over the reliability of the entire examination system of Anna University.

“Therefore, the higher education department has the responsibility to safeguard the reputation of the Anna University. Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palanisami should appoint a committee of Vice-Chancellors for ensuring transparency in the revaluation of mark sheets and safeguard the future of students,” he demanded.

Based on the complaints that controller of examinations office boosted the marks for thousands of students after receiving Rs 10,000 from each student last year, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption had conducted searches and seized several documents from the premises related to the accused.

Meanwhile, PMK founder Ramadoss urged the state government to transfer the revaluation scam case to CBI from DVAC. “The inquiry should not stop at the level of the former controller of examinations Uma. All those involved in the revaluation scam should be exposed,” he urged.
