Duraimurugan ridicules O Panneerselvam protest for water

AIADMK (Amma) govt is repeatedly announcing that it would prepare a report for a desalination plant with a capacity of 400 million litres per day.

Chennai: DMK principal secretary K. Duraimurugan on Saturday ridiculed protests announced by former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam demanding solution to drinking water scarcity in Chennai.

Lashing out at Panneerselvam, the DMK leader said the former Chief Minister running a small breakaway group of the AIADMK had suddenly realised that people living in Chennai needed drinking water for survival.

Charging the AIADMK government with not doing anything to solve the water woes of the city during the last four years, Duraimurugan said Panneerselvam who was part of the government hold-ing a protest for drinking water is a farce.
He recalled that the DMK government implemented the Krishna water project and set up desalination plants in Minjur and Nenmeli to solve the drinking water problems of the city.

The AIADMK (Amma) government is repeatedly announcing that it would prepare a report for a desalination plant with a capacity of 400 million litres per day from 2013. But, the project had not been implemented and minister S.P. Velumani had reiterated the same proposal in this year's budget session too, Duraimurugan said.
