Prospects of Congress defectors improve

To merge the Congress MLAs who have defected into the TRS, it will require 12 MLAs (two thirds of the total MLAs).

Hyderabad: The resignation of TPCC Chief Uttam Kumar Reddy as MLA has made it easy for TRS to merge the Congress MLAs who have defected to the TRS Legislature Party.

In the Assembly elections, the Congress won 19 seats and with the resignation of Uttam as MLA, the total number of Congress MLAs has come down to 18.

To merge the Congress MLAs who have defected into the TRS, it will require 12 MLAs (two thirds of the total MLAs). Eleven Congress MLAs have already officially announced they will join the TRS. In order to avoid disqualification of the defecting Congress MLAs, TRS still requires one more MLA. Since the TRS is expecting that Bhadra-chalam Congress MLA Podem Veeraiah will join, there will be 12. Once Veeraiah agrees to join the TRS, will start the merger process.
