Probe deaths due to shocks: Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy
Hyderabad: Blaming the negligence of electricity staff, Congress Legislative Party deputy leader Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on Tuesday sought a judicial probe into deaths caused by electrical shock in the state.
In a letter to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and energy minister G. Jagadeesh Reddy, Mr Ponguleti said around 180 people have lost their lives due to electric shock in the last four years.
The Congress leader said the 11KV high tension wires are passing at a very low height at many places in the state and several times the live wires have fallen in the agricultural fields after getting cut.
He said two people (father and son) belongs to ST family namely Shanker (45) and Venkatesh (19) have lost their lives due to high voltage current shock when both of them were in their fields for farming on Monday at Raghunadha-palem in Khammam Urban.
When informed to officials, they said there was no current supply in that wire.
He asked the state government to pay Rs 20 lakh to family members of the victims as compensation on humanitarian grounds.
