H D Deve Gowda's decision upsets party MLCs
Bengaluru: JD(S) MLCs are visibly upset at party supremo, H D Deve Gowda's decision not to induct any of them into the Council of Ministers to be sworn in on Wednesday.
Mr Gowda's decision has come as a shocker, especially for Mr Basavaraj Horatti, who has been a member of the Legislative Council for the last 38 years.
Sources close to the senior MLC say he is very upset with Mr Gowda's decision and has decided not to accept any post, including that of Council chairman.
Although a delegation of JD(S) MLCs met Mr Gowda and tried to persuade him to at least induct Mr Horatti into the Cabinet considering his seniority, the latter was reportedly unmoved and wanted to know his contribution to the party.
When contacted, Mr Horatti claimed he was not after power and was not in the race for a ministerial position. “I don’t want to create any embarrassment for (CM) Mr Kumaraswamy", he added.
Meanwhile, JD(S) MLCs were also annoyed at not being invited for the JDLP meeting held at Mr Gowda's house Monday night as it has been a tradition to invite both MLAs and MLCs to such meetings where important decisions are taken.
