Several friends of Bimal are behind the project.

Kozhikode: JNU students union leader Kanhaiya Kumar will attend a seminar at Town hall here on July 7 as a part of K.S Bimal’s first death anniversary.

The programme, being organised by ‘Janadhipathya Vedi’, a forum floated by Bimal will see intellectuals including former state planning board vice- chairman Prabhat Patnaik participating.

K.S Bimal was the former SFI central committee member who was estranged from the official CPM faction after the murder of T.P Chandrasekharan. He died on July 1 last year due to cancer.

Besides the seminar, ‘Bimal Anusmarana Samiti’ will be organising a slew of programmes in Vadakara and Edachery next month. A State-level theatre fest would be held in Vadakara town hall in July first week with the participation of six major amateur theatre groups. The theatre fest will become an annual event.

“July 1 will mark the beginning of the construction of the Bimal cultural village at his home town, Edachery. An open theatre, space for drama rehearsal, painting exhibition hall, library and reference room, children’s park etc has been envisioned in the project which will come up on an acre of land bought on the shore of Vadakara-Mahi canal,” said C.K Shiju Kumar Edachery, one of the organizers.

“There will be routine cultural activity in the village. Artistes could stay here and present programmes. It was a dream of Bimal to set up a cultural village in the area,” elaborated Adv M. Siju, the general convener of the committee formed to set up the cultural village.

Several friends of Bimal are behind the project and 1000 of them had joined hands to make the village a reality. Organizers expect the village to be functional within a year.
