Jagan stands for poor: YSRC hits back at TD chief

Vijayawada: Leaders of the YSR Congress came down hard on Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu over the ongoing ‘class war’, related to land allotments to the poor in Amaravati, questioning which side he was with, stating that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was supporting the poor and oppressed communities.

This follows Jagan Mohan Reddy previously claiming that all Opposition parties were standing by the elite and the wealthy, shunning the poor, with MLC Dokka Manikyavaraprasad Rao referring to a special leave petition filed in the Supreme Court against the AP High Court’s verdict on the land allotment.

MLC Manikyavaraprasad termed the TD as an “evil and unfair” party that is anti-poor, as evidenced by its filing the petition against a verdict in favour of the poor.

He said: “In the history of Andhra Pradesh alone, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has the honour of distributing houses to around 30 lakh poor people. Which side are you (Chandrababu) in the ‘class war’? Are you on the side of the poor or the rich?”

Further stating that the TD failed in giving a statement on the High Court verdict, he echoed Jagan Mohan Reddy’s view that “this is a class war between the poor and the TD.”

Accusing the TD leader of a narrow view, the MLC said: “A capital means universities like SRM, VIT and only high-class people should stay… can’t the poor people come here? Why can't low-class families stay here? How did the Chandrababu government allocate large-scale sites to universities such as VIT and SRM and others, without developing any infrastructure in the once-capital region of Amaravati? The TD's intention is that the poor should not have houses in Amaravati.”

Manikyavaraprasad stated that the state government has the responsibility to comply with the High Court order to provide houses to all the people irrespective of caste, rich and poor.

Referring to the Ashwini Kumar case, he said that the Supreme Court directed allotting houses to the poor. “The Jagan Mohan Reddy's government will abide by that Supreme Court verdict. The programme of distributing houses for all is being done continuously. The development will happen here if houses are given to all communities,” he said.

Housing minister Jogi Ramesh, water resources minister Ambati Rambabu, MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, MLC Lella Appi Reddy and advisor to government (public affairs) Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, among others, also termed Chandrababu Naidu and other TD leaders “anti-SC/ST/BC and against minority classes, with the opposition to house sites to poor in Amaravati showing it. They deplored that communists, who used to stand by the poor also now are against house sites to poor people in Amravati, which is severely objectionable.”

They demanded Naidu clear his stand in the ‘class war’ and whether he supported the poor and suppressed communities or only the wealthy.
