Bhatti rallies behind handloom workers, toddy tappers

HYDERABAD: Congress Legislature party (CLP) leader Bhatti Vikramarka announced free power to handloom workers on the lines of the 24x7 electricity given to farmers and a free insurance scheme for toddy tappers when the Congress comes to power in the state.

“Our party flag has a spinning wheel in it and reflects the close association the party has with handloom workers,” he said at a meeting during his padayatra, which entered the 50th day on Tuesday.

Warning the state government not to take away land given to the poor by the previous governments, he said all surplus land would be distributed to the poor once the Congress comes to power.

A fully paid insurance scheme will be launched for toddy tappers as their vocation is fraught with danger day in and out. There is corruption in the distribution of sheep to Golla and Kuruma communities, he said.

The Bunadi Gani canal, which was started by the Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy government, remained incomplete and mirrors the inefficiency of the BRS government. It should be completed on a war footing, he said. He reiterated that soon after the Congress is elected to power it will announce a job calendar and an unemployment dole would be given till they get employment. The health insurance amount under Aarogyasri will be increased to ₹5 lakhs, he asserted.

PCC general secretary Noothi Satyanarayana organised a programme to mark the 50th day of the yatra at Gollagudem in Bibinagar mandal to mark the occasion. Yadadri Bhongir DCC president Anil Kumar Reddy cut a cake.

Women farmers Dharavat Manthi , Lakshmi and Sakri were sobbing while showing their rain soaked paddy at the Gollagudem IKP centre. The distraught women said though they had brought 300 bags of paddy to the purchase centre 15 days back, the weighing equipment was not provided and the paddy has started germinating.
