Congress leaders file case on defector

Want Vanama punished for winning on Congress ticket, joining TRS.

Khammam: A complaint was lodged against Kothagudem MLA Vanama Venkateswara Rao on Sunday in Sujathanagar police station for leaving the Congress and joining the ruling party.

Congress leaders Chintalapudi Rajasekhar, Naga Sitaramulu, Talluri Srinivas Rao, Madipalli Srinivas and Panjala Srinivas submitted a written complaint against Mr Vanama Rao in Sujathanagar police station. In the absence of the station house officer, they submitted the complaint to the assistant sub-inspector Ellanki Venkateswara Rao, who has given an acknowledgement to the complaint.

According to the complainants, Mr Vanama Rao has committed a crime under Sections 405, 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code by leaving the Congress and joining the TRS.

“Vanama got B form from the Congress and joined the TRS. It is unethical practice, breach of trust and showing dishonesty,” Chintalapudi Rajasekhar said. IPC Section 406 lays down the punishment for criminal breach of trust, which is defined in section 405 of the IPC.

The section reads, “Whoever commits criminal breach of trust shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine or with both.”

Congress leader Chintalapudi Rajasekhar said, “The people of Sujathanagar mandal feel they have been ditched. The voters of Sujathanagar had given him a 2,200-vote margin and he won the Kothagudem seat because of this.” Not only the people of Sujathanagar, but also the other voters in Kothagudem who voted for him, have been ditched, he said.

Tribals voted against the ruling party for not issuing pattas to their podu lands. Unemployed youth voted for the Congress because the TRS did not provide employment.

“Vanama ditched all their hopes and joined the TRS. He should be punished under IPC 420 (cheating),” said Mr Talluri Srinivas, a Congress leader who also complained against Mr Vanama Rao.

Mr Srinivas said that the MLA has cheated the voters who voted for him and should be punished for his dishonesty.
