Sitaram Yechury in Wayanad on April 18

CPM chief’s programme rescheduled in the wake of Rahul contesting from constituency.

Thiruvananthapuram: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury whose campaign schedule during the first leg did not figure Wayanad, will lead the LDF charge on April 18.

The CPM general secretary’s campaign programme was rescheduled in the wake of Congress president Rahul Gandhi contesting from Wayanad constituency. He will be addressing two rallies in Kalpetta and Wandoor. Besides, he will meet a cross section of people during his visit to the constituency.

Apart from Yechury, politburo members Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat, S. Ramachandran Pillai, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrihsnan and M. A. Baby will campagin inthe constituency.

CPI national general secretary Sudhakar Reddy will campaign in Wayanad on April 11. D. Raja has already completed one round of campaigning for party candidate P. P. Suneer.

Buoyed by the exhilarating response to Rahul Gandhi’s road show on Thursday, the Congress is gearing up to organise at least three road shows in various parts of Wayanad constituency during his next visit on April 16 and 17. The Congress leaders say the Congress president’s arrival has galvanized the cadres and booth committees and this would reflect in the margin with which he is expected win from Wayanad.

The Congress leaders have also requested Priyanka Gandhi to make one more visit before April 23. She is expected to visit Wayanad for two days and hold road shows in a couple of towns in the constituency. With top CPM and Congress leaders descending on Wayanad, the BJP has also made a request for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting in Wayanad in support of NDA candidate Thushar Vellpally. Mr Modi is scheduled to address election rally in Kozhikode on April 12. Efforts are being made by state BJP leaders to get a date closer to his Kozhikode visit.

Amit Shah, Smriti Irani and Rajnath Singh are other top leaders who are expected to campaign in Wayanad.
