LDF plans mega rallies to counter ‘Rahul effect’

The Left leaders are wary of the sense of dejection that might set in LDF cadres in the wake of the high voltage campaign of the Congress.

Thiruvananthapuram: The ruling LDF has decided to hold mega election rallies in Wayanad as an answer to Rahul Gandhi’s massive road show on Thursday after filing nomination.

The Left leaders are wary of the sense of dejection that might set in LDF cadres in the wake of the high voltage campaign of the Congress. The Congress is planning repeat of the exhilarating show that it conducted on Thursday.

Taking into account the Congress’ campaign blitzkrieg, the ruling front is devising a strategy to stimulate its cadres. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will lead the frontal attack on Rahul Gandhi at the mega public meetings to expose the "political pauperism" of the Congress and its attempts to weaken the unity of secular democratic forces against Narendra Modi.

The CPM has directed branch, local, area and district committees to coordinate closely with all LDF constituents to ensure the success of the public meetings. The idea is to ensure maximum mobilisation of people from all walks of life to send out a clear message that the LDF will not leave any stone unturned to take on Rahul Gandhi.

Right after the announcement of polls, the LDF’s main focus during election meetings was on the failures of Narendra Modi Government and BJP – Sangh Parivar’s ‘fascist’ agenda. However, after Rahul Gandhi’s candidature, the LDF leaders have stepped up its attack on the Congress its president.

In each public meeting addressed by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the focus is on Congress decision to field Rahul from Kerala. “The Congress says its main fight is against BJP. But it has chosen to field party president from Wayanad where there is no presence of BJP. It is fighting against the Left and their stand is against the countrywide mood of fighting against the BJP. So in whose interest is the Congress working ? asks the chief minister.
