Independent? Sumalatha is Congress candidate: H D Kumaraswamy

HDK accused the Congress of teaming up with the BJP and Karnataka State Farmers Association to support independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh.

Chikkamagaluru: In a sign of deteriorating relations between the coalition partners, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Friday accused the Congress of teaming up with the BJP and Karnataka State Farmers Association to support independent candidate, Sumalatha Ambareesh, against his son Nikhil in the high stakes contest for supremacy in Mandya Lok Sabha constituency.

Admitting that things have gone out of hand in Mandya, the CM said, “The independent candidate has got widespread support. She (Sumalatha) may appear as an independent, but she has got the support of the Congress, the BJP and the Raita Sangha (farmers' association). All of them have joined hands to trample JD(S). He (H.D. Deve Gowda) has only uttered the truth (that even former CM Siddaramaiah cannot reverse the situation in Mandya). Somewhere some 'Chakravyuha' has been hatched but the people of Mandya have already taken a decision (to elect Nikhil),” he said.
