COIMBATORE/ CHENNAI: Coimbatore Police have registered a case against DMK president M K Stalin for allegedly making defamatory speech against Municipal Administration minister and AIADMK leader SP Velumani at an election meeting here.

Police complaints have been lodged against Mr. Stalin at two police stations in Coimbatore, related to controversial references he made in his election campaign speeches here while referring to the Pollachi sex scam.

During his campaigns at Kuniyamuthoor and Thondamuthoor, Mr. Stalin alleged various charges against ruling AIADMK minister S.P. Velumani. He said that minister Mr. SP Velumani had used his political power to protect Bar Nagaraj, who is one of the alleged offenders in the Pollachi sex scam case.

Following this controversial speech of Stalin, the Coimbatore AIADMK lawyer’s wing functionary and advocate T Ramachandran lodged a complaint at Thondamuthoor police station on Friday, in which he mentioned that M.K. Stalin had spread rumors among voters and spoiled the reputation of AIADMK leaders.

In the complaint, the advocate alleged that Stalin, when he was speaking at an election rally in Coimbatore on Thursday, leveled corruption allegations against minister SP Velumani. Stalin reportedly said, “Velumani tops the list of corrupt leaders in the state. We have collected enough evidence against him and we can prove his involvement in corruption”. He further said that “when we come to power, DVAC will arrest Velumani. Our first task will be to send Velumani to jail.”

The complaint was registered under section IPC 153 (A) promoting enmity and disharmony between two different groups and section IPC 504 involving provocation and intending to cause public nuisance and disturb peace.

While campaigning for Pollachi parliamentary constituency DMK candidate K Shanmugasundaram at Kuniyamuthur, Stalin also said that apart from the elections for the Vellore Lok Sabha seat, attempts were being made to postpone the by-poll in Gudiyattam and Ambur Assembly seats.

Another complaint was lodged at Kuniyamuthoor police station by AIADMK lawyer Vetrivel under various sections against M.K.Stalin in this regard.

Meanwhile, Chennai City Cyber crime wing had registered a case against DMK’s Central Chennai parliamentary candidate Dayanidhi Maran for an alleged smear campaign against Sam Paul, PMK’s parliamentary candidate for Central Chennai. Paul alleged that his photos were morphed and circulated in social media.
