HYDERABAD: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Etala Rajendar urged intellectuals to raise their voice against the BRS government over unjust reservations for vulnerable communities.
He highlighted the elevation of 22 OBC Union ministers, 12 SC ministers and 8 ST ministers by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, contrasting it to one SC minister per 17 per cent of the population in Telangana and the lack of chance given to the Madiga community.
“Intellectuals should raise their voice against the injustice done by the BRS government,” he said.
Speaking at a seminar titled ‘Futuristic development of Backward Classes’ organised by the BC Samaj at Birla Planetarium on Sunday, Rajendar said that as per the Constitution, all are equal in the country, but rulers from 1 per cent of the population were dominating others.
“We are supported by the rulers by franchising vote. At the same time, we need to fight to get back our rights,” he said.
He accused the BRS government of disrespecting reservations by setting up private universities. “Unfortunately, universities are divided into poor and rich students,” he said.
Professors Inukonda Tirumali, Venkata Narayana, Karimnagar zilla parishad former chairperson Tula Uma and others were present.
Later, Rajendar met a protesting group at Indira Park, who were agitating against the government’s decision to oust them from their residence in Boduppal.
Rajendar extended his support to the protesters, saying that the government should not disturb people who purchased lands and constructed houses in Boduppal. “On the pretext of Wakf lands, the government is harassing the residents,” he alleged.
