No secret poll pact, says DMDK
Chennai: The BJP and its “potential” ally the DMDK’s jousting on alliance came to the fore on Saturday with the DMDK, for first time coming out in the open, claiming that it had not entered into any secret poll pact. The BJP leadership, which was quick to react, asserted that it is not dependent on allies to fight the Assembly polls.
Contending that his leader ‘Captain’ (Vijayakanth) has not made any decision on alliance, the party’s legislator and propaganda secretary V.C. Chandra Kumar denied media reports claiming that the DMDK had entered into a secret poll pact with a party (DMK) and accepted 59 seats from it. At the same time, media reports asserting that Vijayakanth was engaged in talks with another party (BJP) were also untrue.
“Even before Captain announced his stand on alliance, media reports spreading canard claimed that the Captain had accepted 59 seats from a party. At the same time rumour mills claimed he was secretly negotiating with another party. The allegations that several crores of rupees changed hands and that Captain was maintaining silence to up his ante during negotiations is baseless,” Mr Chandra Kumar said in a WhatsApp message that went viral on Saturday.
The truth, he maintained, is that Vijayakanth has not made any decision on alliance nor has he spoken about alliance. “Whatever be his decision, it is his announcement that will be final and factual,” he told his party members and public.
Speaking to a private channel, Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, BJP state president, said Chandra Kumar had referred to the DMK with regard to secret poll pact.
“The BJP is not dependent on allies, but only on our cadres and the public, to fight this Assembly election. Our party is strong and is emerging as an alternative force in the state,” she asserted. Just because the BJP attempted to win over allies did not mean that her party lacked infrastructure.
