Telangana govt to form 55 village courts
Hyderabad: Following the High Court's proposals and its order, the Telangana state government has accorded permission to establish 55 Gram Nyayalayas (village courts) across the state.
The state government on Tuesday placed the GO-4 issued by the Law Secretary before the division bench of Chief Jus-tice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and Justice A. Rajasekhar Reddy in relation to its sanction to the establishment of Gram Nyayalayas in every district.
While submitting the copy of the GO to the court, Sanjeev Kumar, special counsel of the state, stated that orders regarding sanction of staff and other expenditure will be issued separately by the Finance Department.
The Bench recorded the submission of the special counsel and closed the PIL, which challenged the inaction of the state government in the establishment of the village courts. The PIL was filed by M. Narender Goud of Hyderabad. At an earlier hearing, the High Court had expressed its displeasure at the state government's laxity in implementing the court's proposal forwarded in 2016 to establish Nyayalayas in accordance with the Gram Nyayalaya Act, 2008.
The Act mandating grassroots level courts for speedy access to, and disbursal of, justice in rural India, came into force from October 2, 2009. However, it has not been properly enforced.
