Congress blames media for its loss in GHMC elections

Every channel supported one political party and none gave even minimum coverage to the campaigning by the Congress

HYDERABAD: TPCC working president and MP A. Revanth Reddy maintained that the Congress had contested the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections with only its cadre and not national leaders, whereas the Bharatiya Janata Party deployed its Union ministers, Chief Ministers and formers chief ministers in the campaign for corporation polls.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday after the GHMC results, he pointed that even the TRS had campaigned with its ministers, MLAs and MLCs to bag the GHMC. Parties other than Congress went on to communalise elections with their provocative comments. He thanked all Congress cadre for their hard work in getting the Congress candidates elected.

The MP accused media of not doing its part of the duty. Every channel supported one political party and none gave even minimum coverage to the campaigning by the Congress. He maintained that the media had turned out to be one of the main reasons for the Congress’ loss in the GHMC polls. He charged that the BJP and TRS had provided “packages” to channels but the Congress did not have that kind of funds.

Revanth Reddy said the Congress had still got 14.5 percentage vote share in the elections compared to 10.4 in the last corporation polls. He also pointed out that BJP contested 54 seats in GHMC elections the last time in alliance with TD and got 24 per cent vote share. BJP’s share in the alliance was then just 10 per cent.
