Lokesh Wants Police Brutality on TD SC Leader Probed

Tirupati: Telugu Desam party national general secretary Nara Lokesh has demanded that Director General of Police K.V. Rajendranath initiate a thorough investigation into the torture of a TD leader belonging to SC community by Kallur circle inspector Kathi Srinivasulu.

The demand for an inquiry comes after TD SC Cell state general secretary Mullangi Venkataramana accused the police officer of torturing him after his recent arrest in connection with the Punganur violence on August 4.

Venkataramana, arrested by Kallur police a few days ago, had been presented before the court on Saturday. The magistrate denied request for Venkataramana police custody and granted him bail.

While appearing before the court, TD leader Venkataramana alleged that Kallur CI Srinivasulu had forcibly placed a cloth inside his mouth and subjected him to severe physical abuse prior to his court appearance. The TD leader was then admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Lokesh condemned the torture and accused YSRC minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy of being behind the arrest of the TD SC Cell leader. He demanded that the DGP order arrest of the Kallur inspector under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
