EC Registers 218 Cases Against Leaders for MCC Violation

HYDERABAD: The police have registered more cases against BRS leaders and its activists for violating Model Code of Conduct (MCC) as compared to the those of the Congress and the BJP in the state.

They registered 97 cases against BRS leaders, 73 against Congress and 29 against BJP leaders for violating rules.

According to Election Commission officials, after the MCC came into force in the state on October 9, the police began registering cases. As of November 3, 218 cases have been registered against different political parties.

Sangareddy police registered cases against ruling party leaders Vijay Kumar and Palle Sanjeevaiah for burning a Congress effigy. The case was registered based on a complaint by K.F. John Stalin, working as flying squad team head of Andole-36, SC constituency.

Police registered cases against BRS leader Padma Devender Reddy's son Punith Reddy and others for abusing and attacking members of a particular community. A complaint was lodged by Sameena Begum alleging that when her family members were sitting at a kirana shop, Punith Reddy, former sarpanch of Shankarampet Kumar Goud and their followers had abused and assaulted them.
Ibrahimpatnam police registered cases against Congress leaders Malreddy Ranga Reddy, Kappri Sravanthi, Bhupatigalla Mahipal and others for conducting a party meeting in a private function hall without taking prior permission.
