Ex-BSP chief to launch party

The political party will be launched at a rally at the National College grounds , where a membership enrolment drive will also be held.

Bengaluru: There seems to be a rush for forming new political parties with the elections to the state assembly looming. After Kannada actor, Upendra and former police officer, Anupama Shenoy, who have announced the launch of new political parties, former state president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), B. Gopal announced on Wednesday that he was launching a new political outfit, the Praja Parivarthan Party on October 9.

While the party will clearly focus on the Dalit vote, it's objective is reportedly on “individual personality transformation, involving communities in bringing about positive change, economic change through appropriate administrative policies, social change by giving equal opportunity to all in education and to create a aware voter base.”

The political party will be launched at a rally at the National College grounds , where a membership enrolment drive will also be held.

Speaking to the Deccan Chronicle a while ago he revealed that he would travel across the state twice before the October 9 rally for the launch of his new party. "Dalits and other oppressed classes will come together," he declared.

Asked how he expected to challenge the Congress, which claimed to have the back of the Dalits through its commitment to the AHINDA cause, Mr Gopal maintained the Dalits were unhappy with the party as its social welfare programmes and the annual Rs 16,000 crore budgetary outlay was not reaching them. “You know where it is going," he added, asserting that the Dalits would teach the Congress party a lesson in the coming assembly polls.
