Harish flays Nirmala’s Telangana debts\' remarks

Rao said that Telangana government\'s debt position was much better than that of the Centre

Hyderabad: Finance minister T. Harish Rao came down heavily on union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman for her comments that Telangana government was reeling under a huge debt burden and their borrowings had exceeded the limits.
In a media statement here on Sunday, Rao said that Telangana government's debt position was much better than that of the Centre.

He decried her remarks that the Union government has constitutional powers to regulate loans of states. Rao wondered how the Centre could raise loans beyond FRBM limits but restrict states.

He accused the ‘discriminatory’ Narendra Modi government of weakening states financially by reducing tax devolution and collecting taxes in the form of cess with malafide intentions.
