MLC choice: Telugu Desam faces tough task

If Mr. Baireddy also joins in the race for a ticket, then TD leaders will have to endure more headaches.

Vijayawada: Several contenders for an MLC seat from Kurnool district, are pressurising the TD over the coming bypolls. Shilpa Chakrapani Reddy’s resignation has added to the confusion. The TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu is being persuaded to encourage Mr K.E. Prabhakar, former Minister Erasu Pratapa Reddy, Bhuma Nagireddy’s close associate A.V. Subba Reddy and Mr S. Sreedhar, to actively involve themselves in the Nandyala bypoll.

The Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, has been entrusted with the responsibility of pacifying everyone and providing an amicable solution. It is also learnt that the Rayalaseema Porata Samiti leader, Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy, has been reportedly approached by top TD leaders. In fact, he may be soon inducted into the TD. The resignation of Chakrapani Reddy has made the government decide to go in for a notification for a bypoll for an MLC position, within six months from August 14.

Keeping his resignation in mind, the TD chief has assured several second rung-leaders and new aspirants that their candidature would be taken into consideration if they performed well in the Nandyal bypoll. Also, S.P.Y. Reddy’s son-in-law Mr S Sreedhar, former Minister Erasu Pratap Reddy, A.V. Subba Reddy and K.E. Prabhakar are all making efforts to add value to the Nandyal by-poll result.

It now remains to be seen who would be chosen by the party chief for the MLC position, which was left vacant after the resignation of Mr Chakrapani Reddy. If Mr. Baireddy also joins in the race for a ticket, then TD leaders will have to endure more headaches. Though the YSRC lost the Nandyal by-poll, it has thrown up another challenge, by creating an atmosphere for a by-poll for the seat of an MLC. “The TD has made great efforts and got busy with timely strategies by engaging its leaders and ministers for more than a month in Nandyal. The proposed by-poll for an MLC position would certainly burden the TD when it comes to making a decision”, said a senior TD leader.
