BENGALURU: Close on the heels of BJP president Amit Shah’s visit to Karnataka to get the state unit battle-ready, newly appointed state in-charge leaders and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar and Piyush Goyal spoke of a concrete plan to fulfill the wishes of people and party workers by dethroning the ruling Congress in next year’s elections to the Legislative Assembly.

On Monday, these leaders chaired meeting with members of the core committee, political affairs committee and Bengaluru city unit as part of the strategy for next year’s elections.

Sources in the party said prior to his arrival, Mr Javadekar took stock of the situation in Karnataka, with Mr Shah. At Monday’s meetings, Mr Javadekar instructed party leaders to draw a road map to take on Congress government on the issue of corruption, He advised them to ensure a grand success of party’s mega rally in Mangaluru. He asked party workers to reach the destination irrespective of whether they got permission for the rally or not. “Our workers and people are enthused. We have a concrete plan of action. People are with the BJP. They want to throw out this anti-democratic, anti-people, anti-farmer government led by Siddaramaiah lock, stock and barrel.” He said people were eagerly waiting to utilise the opportunity to exercise their franchise next April to execute a change of guard in state.

On discontent brewing among north Karnataka MPs over not getting an entry into the Union Cabinet, Mr Javadekar told the media, “We will give Karnataka good governance and best days again... On the very first day, we have had an intensive interaction for nearly six hours.”

At the political affairs committee meeting, the leaders discussed issues such as dispute over sharing water of the river Mahadayi between the state, Goa and Maharashtra, separate flag for Kannada, separate religious status to Lingayats and anti-Hindi sentiments especially removal of Hindi boards at Namma Metro. He asked BJP leaders to remain more cautious about the issues of separate flag for Kannada and separate religion status for Lingayats. Meanwhile, state unit leaders briefed him about state government projecting a poor image of Union government and its schemes.
