Bengaluru: The battle for Mayor’s seat got more complicated for both Congress and BJP, as the JD(S) too has set its eyes on this post. Popularly known as kingmaker, the JD(S) with just 14 seats out of 198, is now aiming to be the king itself!
Although the BJP had 101 seats last year, the JD(S) and the seven independents extended support to Congress, which had 76 seats, and JD(S) was satisfied after getting the Deputy Mayor’s post. Both Congress and BJP have been contemplating on the holding meeting with JD(S) national president H. D. Deve Gowda and state president H.D. Kumaraswamy regarding mayoral post.
The JD(S) would be willing to sit in the opposition if it fails to secure Mayor’s post, said sources in Congress. BJP sources said they would meet JD(S) party leaders and strike an understanding over sharing the posts of Mayor, Deputy Mayor and other standing committee chairmen.
With the polls slated to be on September 18, all the three parties are busy with number games. Congress is making all out effort to hold the council for the second time with support from JD(S) and independents.
