DMK MLA and party headquarters secretary Ku Ka Selvam called on the BJP chief J P Nadda at New Delhi on Tuesday, conveyed his greeting to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Ram temple foundation laying to be held on Wednesday but denied having defected to the BJP.
Selvam’s journey to Delhi along with BJP State president L Murugan and his accompanying BJP leader Muralidhar Ra to meet Nadda sparked speculations throughout Tuesday about the DMK veteran’s defection to the BJP on the lines of the recent switchover of V P Duraisamy.
However, emerging out of the meeting with Nadda, Selvam categorically said that he had not joined the BJP and urged the DMK to snap ties with the Congress, whose leader Rahul Gandhi was repeatedly finding fault with Narendra Modi.
Asked about his meeting with the BJP chief and also Muralidhar Rao, Selvam said the meetings were courtesy calls but urged DMK President M K Stalin to chastise the DMK members who spoke ill of Murugan and also hold inner party elections.
He claimed that he travelled to Delhi for meeting the Railway Minister Piyush Goel and ask for the installation of the second lift at the Nungambakkam railway station, which fell within his Thousand Lights Assembly constituency in Chennai.
To question if he had informed the DMK high command of his visit to Delhi, Selvam said there was no need for that since he was on a mission to seek help for his constituency.
When asked what he would do if the DMK took action against him, he said he was ready to face any action.
