Governor Banwarilal Purohit: Living simple life will end graft

Corruption can be eliminated by imbibing such an attitude of simple living.

Chennai: Corruption can be eliminated once and for all in India if only all citizens resolve to lead a simple life, according to Governor Banwarilal Purohit. “How to eliminate corruption? The moment all Indians, we, decide to lead a simple life...simple living,” he said, addressing a function held by the United Writers’ Association and the Frank Moraes Foundation here on Saturday.

Even Mahatma Gandhi had spoken about the importance of leading a simple life, the Governor said, adding simple living and high thinking were needed for the progress of the country. “Everybody should be satisfied,” he said and went on to elaborate that it would be better to drive a Maruti than to aspire for a costly, luxurious car.

Corruption can be eliminated by imbibing such an attitude of simple living. “For everybody I am telling, lead a simple life.. practice it.”

India topped the World Bank growth outlook for the first time in fiscal year 2015-16, during which the economy grew 7.6 per cent, he said.

“..the World Bank sees India as the fastest growing major emerging economy for the next three years. It is expected that the economy will see a robust GDP growth of 7.3 per cent in 2018-19 and 7.5 per cent for the next two years,” he said.
