Man hurls slipper at BJP AP president chief Kanna Lakshminarayana

BJP cadres roughed up the man, identified as Gorripati Maheswar Rao of Tangutur in Prakasam district.

Nellore: A man claiming that he did not belong to any political party hurled his footwear at BJP AP president Kanna Lakshminarayana during a rally at Kavali in Nellore district on Wednesday evening. The man claimed he did so as he was unhappy with the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

BJP cadres roughed up the man, identified as Gorripati Maheswar Rao of Tangutur in Prakasam district.

The incident took place when the rally, which had started at Brindavan Colony in Kavali, reached the Gandhi statue centre. Rao hurled his footwear at Mr Lakshminarayana from other side of the road. He threw the second one after the first one missed the target and that too fell away from the state BJP chief.

Party activists standing nearby immediately assaulted Rao before he was rescued and taken away by the police.

Mr Rao later told the police that he was a lorry driver and not connected to any political party. He said he hurled the footwear at Mr Lakshminarayana because he was angry with the policies of Mr Modi.

Reacting to the incident, Telugu Desam MLC Beeda Ravichandra said the party had nothing to do with the incident and Rao was not a party member.
