MPs can also choose model electricity villages: DK Shivakumar
Bengaluru: As announced in the state budget, the plan of model electricity villages in each of the 224 constituencies in the state has been extended to MPs too, said Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
Addressing media personnel on Tuesday, Shivakumar said, "All the MLAs were asked to select five villages in each of their constituencies in the state. The villages comprising a population of 1,000 to 2,000 will be developed as model electricity villages. These villages will be provided with efficient use of electricity at a cost ranging between Rs 25-40 lakh with installation of LED bulbs, transformers, timers among others."
The scheme has now been extended to MPs too and they will be given time to select five villages in their respective constituencies, he said.
Model Subdivision
Under model subdivision plan, quality power supply, 100 per cent billing and collection, plugging leakages, safety measures, LED lights and transformers will be ensured.
Under the scheme Bescom will spend approximately Rs 1,850 crore, GESCOM (Rs 315 crore), HESCOM (Rs 515 crore), CESCOM (Rs 750 crore) and MESCOM (Rs 350 crore), Mr Shivakumar said and added that the project will be completed in 18 months.
Transformer Bank
To help speedy replacement of damaged transformers, every taluk in the state have been directed to have 100 transformers in their taluk centres. Tenders for 50,000 transformers have been invited and orders have been placed for another 50,000 transformers with various companies, he said.
