Former MP A H Vishwanath finally chooses JD(S)

Mr Kumaraswamy, who spoke on the occasion, said it was inevitable for the JD(S) to come to power in the state.

Bengaluru: Former Minister, A H Vishwanath, who recently quit the Congress party that he was associated with for 40 years, joined the Janata Dal (S) here on Tuesday and vowed to work to bring it to power in the state.

Speaking after his formal induction into the party, he said he was infused with same kind of spirit that he had four decades ago and would tour the state to see that the JD(S) was elected in the 2018 polls.

While making no criticism of the Congress, which he has described in the past as akin to his mother, he said he had not compromised on his political principles.''I have just changed the jhanda and not my agenda in politics. My aim is to ensure that secularism benefits every citizen of the state. I have left a national party and joined a regional party, which believes in a secular philosophy. Although it is a regional party, it has produced a Prime Minister of the country and a number of Chief Ministers. This is not a small thing," he noted.

Recalling that when state JDS chief, H D Kumaraswamy took over as Chief Minister, he had observed in the Assembly lounge that an enthusiastic youngster had become CM, he said, "Today, I have opportunity to work with him and will work under the guidance of Mr Deve Gowda and as a friend of Mr Kumaraswamy.''

Mr Kumaraswamy, who spoke on the occasion, said it was inevitable for the JD(S) to come to power in the state. Calling Mr Vishwanath an asset to his party, he regretted that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had forgotten he owed his entry into the Congress to him. Former BJP MLA from Virajpet, Basavaraj and Teradal BJP leader, Basavaraj Kunnur also joined the JD(S) on the occasion.
