SRSP will get water for 2nd crop: K Chandrasekhar Rao
Karimnagar: The Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) will be filled with water from Kaleshwaram for supply for the second crop this year, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said on Tuesday.
He was speaking after inspecting the progress of work at the SRSP as part of the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme (KLIS), the flagship project of the government, at Rampur of Malyal mandal in Jagtial district.
This is Mr Rao’s second visit to inspect the project work within 15 days. Despite the heat conditions in mid-May, Mr Rao inspected work at the Medigadda barrage and Kannepalli pump house under KLIS on May 19.
On Tuesday, he inspected the pump house work at Rampur. He also undertook an aerial survey over the Godavari basin and barrages and conducted a review meeting on the progress of works.
Mr Rao has previously held review meetings on reviving the SRSP and directed officials to supply water through reverse pumping to the project from the Laxmipur pump house to Rampur and to Laxmipur from Medi-gadda, Sundilla, Anna-ram Barrages through the flood flow canal.
Mr Rao said that the people of Telangana had a lot of hopes on the project and were looking forward for its completion. For decades, farmers were facing problems with poor supply of water for irrigation. To overcome such problems and in the best interests of the farming community, state government had initiated several projects.
With a view to supplying water to one crore acres, the government was constructing several irrigation projects such as the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy, Kalesh-waram, Sitarama lift irrigation scheme. Among all of them, Kaleshwaram is very important, Mr Rao said.
The project aims to supply water to the farm sector, industries and for drinking water needs of about 80 per cent of the districts. Once the project is completed, all of Telangana state will become fertile, he said.
Minister V. Prashant Reddy, Chief Whip Rajeshwar Reddy, MP Santosh Kumar, MLC Seri Subash Reddy, ZP chairperson Tula Uma, IDC chairman Eedha Shankar Reddy, irrigation engineer-in-chief Muralidhar Rao, adviser Penta Reddy, CM’s Secretary Smita Sabharwal accompanied Mr Rao.
