Govt will provide skill development training prog: SP Velumani
Chennai: The State government will conduct skill development training programme to about 71,000 youth as part of the birthday celebration of late CM J. Jayalalithaa, State Municipal Administration Minister S. P. Velumani informed the Assembly on Monday.
“This government will take appropriate steps to launch the ‘placement-linked skill training wage employment’ programme - Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushal Yojana (DDU-GKY) during 2018 – 19 fiscal,” Mr. Velumani said.
(This scheme has been launched by the Union Ministry of Rural Development, in an effort to address two major challenges of economy of the country and the progress of the youth population in the country. Under the DDU-GKY, the Ministry invests in several skilling projects, free of cost to trainees as well as employees and also tracks the progress of trainees over a period of 12 months. The program primarily focuses on rural youth from poor families who fall under the age group of 15-35).
Under this scheme, about 25,000 rural youth and 12,000 under National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) would be trained and provided with employment, the Minister said and added that job fairs would be held at district level.
Also, as part of a novel initiative to reclaim land, which is turning into dumping yards across the state, the government has proposed to introduce bio-mining of sludge in urban centres and retrieve the land for possible usage, Mr. Velumani informed the Assembly.
He also announced that the government would construct a Yatri Nivas in the temple town of Rameswaram to meet the requirements of increasing number of pilgrims, under PPP mode.
