Bengaluru: Coming down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for dubbing Bengaluru “Sin City” in one of his campaign speeches on Thursday, Congress spokesperson and former Union minister, Manish Tewari demanded that Mr Modi apologise publicly for describing Bengaluru in this manner.
Speaking to reporters here, he said Mr Modi must understand that building lies was easy but building cities is difficult.
“It is proved beyond doubt that the Modi government has neglected Karnataka’s cities with its stepmotherly treatment. The Bharatiya Janata Party’s chief ministerial candidate, Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa, is to solely blame for spoiling the city’s infrastructure,” he said.
According to him, Mr Modi and his party were staring at imminent defeat in the Assembly polls and in desperation, the Prime Minister was uttering lies whenever he opens his mouth.
“Mr Modi coined certain unfortunate and disappointing phrases to describe Namma Bengaluru. It is not only an insult to the hard work and pride of 1.2 crore Bengalurueans, it is also a stark reminder of the fact that he can stoop to any level of rhetoric to score cheap political points," Mr Tewari added.
The Congress leader ridiculed the Bharatiya Janata Party's vision document for Bengaluru and said that it reminded him of the arithmetic theorem, 0 + 0 = 0.
If B.S. Yeddyurappa was the Bharatiya Janata Party’s CM face, how could there be a vision for the party?
“A vision of such magnitude always comes from a leader of character who envisions it right. Yeddyurappa is seen as the epitome of corruption and extortion. Therefore their vision cannot be anything great,” he remarked.
