Bengaluru: BJP MLA BN Vijayakumar dies, EC defers Jayanagar poll
Bengaluru: Soft-spoken and courteous to the core, Jayanagar BJP MLA B.N. Vijaykumar who passed away Friday morning, was every man's popular politician.
Son of a former HAL employee, he was attracted to the RSS at an early age and participated in the Hubballi Idgah Maidan agitation in the Nineties but was no 'Yogi Adityanath'- known to spit venom against the minority community before he became CM of Uttar Pradesh. “He upheld the BJP's ideology during the elections but once elected, never spoke of his ideological moorings. His constituency has a sizable Muslim population and I remember a Muslim journalist bringing to my notice how Vijaykumar helped Muslims in his constituency get facilities introduced by the Modi government. This is the essence of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas that Mr Modi speaks about and Vijaykumar did implement it in Jayanagar," a BJP leader, M.H. Shreedhar said.
Following his death, the Election Commission countermanded the Jayanagar election.
