Karnataka: KS Eshwarappa under pressure to attend executive

Eshwarappa had been advised not to boycott the state executive at any cost as it would prove costly for him in the coming days.

Bengaluru: Will he or won’t he? Leader of Opposition in the state Legislative Council K.S. Eshwarappa who had raised the banner of revolt against state Bharatiya Janata Party president B S Yeddyurappa, is reportedly under tremendous pressure following instructions issued to him by the BJP and the RSS to attend the two-day state executive committee meeting which begins in Mysuru on Saturday.

Sources told Deccan Chronicle that Eshwarappa had been advised not to boycott the state executive at any cost as it would prove costly for him in the coming days.

He has been reportedly asked to share his grievances in the party forum. Though Eshwarappa is reluctant to attend the meeting, the fact that his absence may irk party bosses may virtually force him to participate, said sources.

Sources claimed that Eshwarappa was so upset that he wanted to resign from the party after his loyalists-MLC Bhanuprakash and Nirmal Kumar Surana were sacked from the posts of state vice-presidents recently.

The dragging of BJP national joint secretary B.L. Santosh into the controvery has also pained him said sources. Eshwarappa had spent 28 days in the same cell with Bhanuprakash in Bengaluru jail during the Emergency and they were released on the same day.

Meanwhile, sources said there is no directive so far from Bharatiya Janata Party national president Amit Shah to Eshwarappa instructing him not to participate in the activities of Sangolli Rayanna Brigade but the decision was likely to be conveyed by Bharatiya Janata Party national general secretary and Karnataka in-charge Muralidhar Rao during the Mysuru meeting.

Eshwarappa has already participated in two preparatory training camps associated with the brigade’s mega event in Raichur on May 8.

Eshwarappa was not available for comment on the current crisis or whether he would participate in the brigade’s May 8 meeting.
