Visakhapatnam: YSRC chief and Opposition leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy warned of launching a protest, along with the employees of Brandix company, if the state government and the company did not concede to the demands of the women workers in the next one month.
On Wednesday, Mr. Reddy visited Visakhapatnam to extend support to the women workers of Brandix Apparel City - who have been protesting over the last few days, demanding a wage hike and resolution of other issues.
Addressing the workers, Mr. Reddy alleged that the police resorted to lathicharge and arrest them only at the behest of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, when the latter was in Vizag city. "The Brandix company is making profits but offering a pittance to the employees. If the wages aren’t increased to Rs 10,000 per month, I will join your protest," Mr. Reddy told the workers.
Several women employees poured out their woes to Mr. Reddy and he assured them of fighting against the government till justice was done. "The women employees at the factory are being subjected to harassment and are not even allowed to use the washrooms.
As per the regulations, a pay revision should have been done in 2011. When it approached the government for approval, the company boasted of huge employment opportunity but it had only recruited a fraction of what they promised and offering very less salaries. The state government should ensure that the wages are revised and the demands of the employees are met.
But the government is doing nothing in this regard," Mr. Reddy added. YSRC district president Gudivada Amarnath, Botsa Satyanarayana and others were present.
