been affecting the people of the state, the Chief Minister, J. Jayalalithaa “is maintaining on the whole a deafening silence,” Ms Karat told reporters here on Wednesday when she came to campaign for the PWF-DMDK alliance candidates for the May 16 polls.

“That is why caste issues are challenging the social reforms introduced in the state,” she observed. When asked about the performance of the Election Commission, she said that the EC had adopted a narrow approach on dealing with issues of bribing the voters was concerned.

When asked about LDF in Kerala stating to construct new dam in Mullaiperiyar in their election manifesto, Ms Karat said that the Centre was always pitting one state against the other on such issues. “The Central government and court should adopt an approach to reach amicable solution on such issues,” she added.
