In Pondicherry, BJP and CPI promise prohibition
Puducherry: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Communist Party of India (CPI) promise to implement total prohibition in the Union Territory, in their election manifestos released here on Wednesday.
BJP assures total prohibition if voted to power, while CPI ensures the prohibition in a phased manner. The BJP manifesto promises job opportunities for all those who have registered with employment exchange and reopening of all defunct textile mills here.
The manifesto says if voted to power, BJP will bring 50 per cent reservation for woman in local body elections and ensure free education for SC students up to graduation level. Other promises in the manifesto are benefits for entrepreneurs starting industries in the Union Territory, setting up IITs in rural area, board of education in Puducherry, introduction of a crop insurance scheme for farmers and development of tourism sector including setting up of zoological park here.
Releasing the manifesto, senior party leader and National Executive committee member L. Ganesan alleged that Rangasamy government failed to work hand in hand with the central government.BJP is contesting in all 30 seats in the UT on its own.
CPI MANIFESTO: The CPI's manifesto which was released by the party's national council member N Kalainathan, focuses on the importance of transparent, corruption free government.
CPI, a constituent of People Welfare Front (PWF) promised to set up a Lokayukta to prevent corruption, if voted to power. The manifesto promises to take necessary action to strengthen the public distribution system and quality rice will be distributed to all card holders through the system.
Creating job opportunities for the people, steps to ensure complete statehood status for Puducherry are among the other poll promises of the party. CPI is contesting in seven constituencies in Puducherry as part of the alliance.
