Farmers protest for opening Muthyampet sugarcane factory

The leaders accused both state and central governments of betraying farmers with regard to Muthyampet sugarcane factory

KARIMNAGAR: Demanding that state government reopen sugarcane factory at Muthyampet in Metpally mandal of Karimnagar district, farmers under banner of Rythu Ikya Vedika blockaded road in front of the collectorate in Jagtial district on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, representatives of farmers’ vedika accused the state government of arresting their union leaders even before their protest programme could be organised. “This is undemocratic and grave injustice to farmers,” they stated.

The leaders accused both state and central governments of betraying farmers with regard to Muthyampet sugarcane factory.

Before the Lok Sabha and assembly elections, leaderships of both the centre and state promised they will reopen three sugarcane factories and resolve all the issues of farmers. But having won their elections, both have deceived the cane farmers.

“Kavitha knows how to play only Bathukamma and is not bothered about farmers. Present Nizamabad MP D. Aravind also promised farmers that he will reopen Muthyampet sugarcane factory. Both have betrayed the farmers,” vedika leaders charged. They said the centre and state have similarly deceived turmeric, corn and paddy growers.

The leaders warned that their agitation will be intensified in days to come and a befitting lesson taught to state and central governments if they fail to act at least now.
