Warangal: Curtains down on GWMC campaign

The collector announced that Saturday will be a local holiday.

Warangal: The loud speakers, the drums, the anklets of the artists, who took part in the GWMC campaign since the past one week, fell silent on Friday evening. With greater Warangal going to polls this Sunday, the campaign came to a close on Friday evening. The candidates took part in an intensive campaign going from door to door from morning to evening, meeting people and asking them for votes.

Taking the election as a matter of prestige, leaders from major political parties took part in the campaign. Though confident about a win for the ruling TRS, Minister Harish Rao took the responsibility of the elections here camped in Warangal till the end of the campaign. From convincing the rebel candidate to withdraw their nominations against the TRS candidates he stayed at the helm of the party’s campaign.

The Opposition parties too brought in big leaders to add strength to its campaign Congress leaders N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Bhatti Vikramarka, Sarve Satyanarayana, Ponnala Lakshmaiah, V. Hanumantha Rao for the Congress, Bandaru Dattatreya, G. Kishan Reddy from BJP and Revanth Reddy, L. Ramana from TD took part in their respective party’s campaign.

While the TRS went to the people with their welfare schemes and claimed that only they have the right to ask for vote in Telangana, other parties accused the CM of making empty promises to people and said the ruling party needs to learn a lesson through this election.

398 candidates are in the fray for the election in 58 divisions in Greater Warangal. Polling will be conducted on March 6 and the counting will take place on March 9. The collector announced that Saturday will be a local holiday.
