Sitaram Yechury, CPI, draw flak at CPM meet

Criticisms were also raised against the home department handled by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Thiruvananthapuram: The delegates at the CPM district conference came down heavily on party general secretary Sitaram Yechury and the CPI during their meeting held here on Sunday.

They accused Mr Yechury of being greedy for positions and status. It was alleged that vested interests were behind Mr Yechury pushing for a CPM-Congress alliance to overcome BJP surge in the country.

The delegates from the CPM Nedumangad area committee alleged that CPI district secretary G.R. Anil had made attempts to have their candidate C Divakaran lose in the Assembly elections.

The CPI leaders held a meeting to ensure propaganda against Divakaran. Mr Divakaran, becoming aware of the move against him, had sought CPM's help, which ensured him victory in the elections, they said.

Criticisms were also raised against the home department handled by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The main allegation was that there was a high presence of RSS members amongst policemen who were enforcing Sangh Parivar agenda. The Chief Minister was reluctant to control them, said the delegates.

The party representatives also criticised Finance Minister Dr. Thomas Isaac saying that he realised many disadvantages of the GST only at a later stage, by which time things had already gotten out of hand, the delegates said.
