District heads, office bearers should work in tandem: M K Stalin
CHENNAI: DMK working president M.K. Stalin has issued a stern warning to his party’s district secretaries asking them to work in coordination with DMK office-bearers and members. Mr Stalin, who is holding meetings with party cadres from across the State on a daily basis, said action would be taken against those district heads who failed to listen to other functionaries or acted unilaterally. He also asked them to constitute a 20-member committee for each polling booth.
“The committees should involve people, who are voters of the booth,” he advised.
The DMK has named a 16-member panel, headed by a senior functionary N.R. Elango, to look into the grievance petitions of cadre and it will submit a report to Mr Stalin. A box named “Theervu Kanum Petti,” (box to resolve issues) has been kept at the venue of the meeting to encourage party workers to submit their grievances. The panel would look into those petitions.
According to a senior DMK leader “the situation in Tamil Nadu is such that state assembly election may be called early” along with the Lok Sabha elections next year, besides the expected civic polls.
About 18 MLAs who threw their lot behind Dhinakaran, were disqualified from the Assembly last year and the matter is pending in the Madras High Court.
Depending on the outcome of the case and its implications, there could be early Assembly election if the ruling party cannot muster a majority.
The DMK would hold its Coimbatore zonal conference at Erode on March 24 and 25. During the first 10 days of the interactive sessions, the DMK leadership is focused on the western region, known in the state as ‘Kongu Nadu,’ which includes Erode, Tirupur and Salem, where the ruling AIADMK is comparatively much stronger. Then, they would focus on cadres from districts, including Tiruchirappalli and Ariyalur districts in central Tamil Nadu, following which workers from other districts would attend the sessions. According to a senior DMK leader “the situation in Tamil Nadu is such that state assembly election may be called early” along with the Lok Sabha elections next year, besides the expected civic polls.
